How Custom Jewellery Design Actually Works (No Mysteries, Just Process)

How Custom Jewellery Design Actually Works (No Mysteries, Just Process)

Custom jewellery sounds fancy and complicated, but it's really not. It's just working with a maker to create something specific to you – your colours, your style, your vision. Here's how it actually works when you commission a bespoke piece from us.

Starting with an Idea

You don't need to arrive with detailed technical drawings or know exactly what you want. Most people start with a vague idea: "I want a necklace with blue flowers" or "Something similar to this but in silver" or "Can you make matching bracelets for my friends?"

That's enough to start a conversation. We'll ask questions, show you examples, discuss what's possible, and gradually refine the idea into something concrete.

Choosing Materials and Style

Once we understand what you're after, we'll talk materials. For resin jewellery, that means discussing colours, whether you want pressed flowers (and which types), glitter, or other elements. For sterling silver, we'll talk about design, finish, and any additional details.

This is collaborative. You tell us what you like, we tell you what works well and what might be tricky, and together we land on a design that's both beautiful and achievable.

The Making Process

Here's where the magic happens – in our Manchester studio, we'll handcraft your piece. For resin work, that involves carefully arranging flowers or other elements, pouring layers of resin, curing, and finishing. For silver, it's measuring, shaping, soldering, and polishing.

Because everything's handmade, there's natural variation. If you've requested pressed flowers, the exact arrangement will be unique because flowers are natural and don't behave identically. That's not a problem – it's what makes your piece genuinely one-of-a-kind.

Timescales

Custom work takes longer than buying something ready-made, obviously. Depending on complexity and our current workload, you're typically looking at a few weeks. We'll give you a realistic timeframe upfront so you know what to expect.

If you need something for a specific date (a birthday, anniversary, event), just let us know early and we'll do our best to accommodate.

Pricing Custom Work

Bespoke pieces are priced based on materials, complexity, and time involved. We'll give you a quote before starting work so there are no surprises.

Custom doesn't automatically mean expensive – it just means made specifically for you. We keep our pricing accessible because we believe handmade shouldn't be exclusively for people with huge budgets.

What If You Don't Love It?

Honestly, this rarely happens because we work collaboratively throughout the process. But if something's not quite right, we'll talk it through. Sometimes it's a quick fix, sometimes we need to rethink an element.

The goal is always for you to love what you receive. We're not precious about making adjustments if needed – we just want you to end up with something brilliant.

Popular Custom Requests

We get asked for all sorts, but common requests include:

  • Matching sets for friends or wedding parties
  • Specific flower types in resin jewellery
  • Particular colour combinations for glitter or resin pieces
  • Sterling silver pieces in custom sizes or styles
  • Jewellery incorporating meaningful flowers (from weddings, gardens, special occasions)

All of these are absolutely doable. The beauty of handmade is flexibility – we're not constrained by factory moulds or mass-production limitations.

Why Commission Custom Jewellery?

Because you end up with something that's exactly what you wanted, made specifically for you, and genuinely unique. It's not about finding the closest match in a shop – it's about creating the actual thing you envisioned.

Plus, there's something satisfying about wearing jewellery that was made just for you. It has a story, it fits your style perfectly, and you know exactly where it came from and who made it.

Getting Started

If you're interested in custom work, just get in touch. Tell us what you're thinking, and we'll take it from there. No commitment required – we're happy to chat through ideas and see if we can create something brilliant together.

Custom jewellery doesn't have to be complicated or intimidating. It's just a conversation, a bit of collaboration, and skilled hands making something special. Simple as that.
